Amaechi's Desperate Gambit: A Politician's Last Stand

My attention has been drawn to recent statements made by former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, regarding the 2027 presidential elections and his sudden interest in “japa” (emigration) after being out of office for less than four years.Let it be made clear: Rotimi Amaechi’s recent outbursts are nothing but the desperate antics of a politician eager to return to power at any cost. During his tenure as Governor and as a two-term Minister, Amaechi never once raised the issue of “japa” or the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad. It is only now, after losing relevance in the corridors of power, that he has suddenly discovered the plight of the people and is using it as a tool for political gain. This hypocrisy is evident. Amaechi’s newfound advocacy is not born out of genuine concern, but rather a calculated attempt to deceive Nigerians and position himself for another shot at power. Nigerians must not be swayed by such opportunistic rhetoric from those who had ample time and resources to make a difference but chose otherwise.I urge all Nigerians to remain tolerant and steadfast. The current administration’s reforms are already yielding positive results:Food and fuel prices are beginning to decline after a period of adjustment following the removal of subsidies and the global disruptions caused by COVID-19.Inflation rates have started to ease, and the economy is showing signs of recovery, with projections for continued growth in the coming years. The government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to policies that will ensure long-term stability and prosperity for all citizens.I understand the challenges faced by many Nigerians, but we assure you that the sacrifices being made today are paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. The government’s focus remains onStrengthening the economyCreating jobs and opportunitiesEnsuring food security and affordable energyWe plead with all Nigerians to reject divisive and self serving narratives. Let us work together in unity and patience as the nation continues on the path of recovery and sustainable development.Signed, Aroge Olalekan Joseph Aide to the Hon Minister of Interior, Federal Republic of Nigeria
