Farmers Resume Cultivation in Conflict-Affected Regions as Security Improves

As part of the successes achieved between July 10th and 17th, 2025, farmers in the North East, particularly those in northern Borno, North West, North Central, and other areas affected by conflicts, have started farming activities.Major General Markus Kangye, Director, Defence Media Operations, disclosed this today at the bi-weekly media briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja while giving an overview of the activities and the successes recorded by Joint Taskforce North East Operation HADIN KAI, Joint Taskforce North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Joint Taskforce North Central Operation SAFE HAVEN, Joint Taskforce North Central Operation WHIRL STROKE, Joint Taskforce South South Operation DELTA SAFE and Joint Taskforce South East Operation UDO KA.Major Gen Kangye also said troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have significantly degraded terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, who hitherto obstructed farming activities in the areas.He affirmed that Nigerian troops have been conducting aggressive foot and aerial patrols across farming communities in all theatres in order to guarantee security for the farmers.He noted that troops killed scores of terrorists while suspected others were arrested. "Troops of OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA killed some terrorists, arrested 19 of them, including a notorious extremist/kidnapper identified as Gambo Sani and gunrunners, rescued 7 kidnapped victims during offensive operations in Bauchi, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger and Katsina States respectively"Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls on terrorists’ activities, contacted extremists, militias/criminals and killed some of them, arrested 21, rescued 3 kidnapped victims in Plateau, Kaduna States, respectively. Items recovered from them were weapons, ammunition and motorcycles as well as illicit drugs and its in troops’ custody."Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE recorded a high level of successes in their areas of responsibility during the week. During the operations, troops eliminated some terrorists, arrested 13 of them and rescued 5 kidnapped victims. They also recovered arms and ammunition, motorcycles, vehicles and large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and illicit drugs in Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States respectively.Maj General Kangye therefore reiterated that military operations are guided by a clear mandate: To defeat all forms of threat, maintain peace, promote National unity and protect every Nigerian citizen. He urged the Nigerians to continue to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authority. www.twitter.com/spyetv
