Amid growing security concerns in Ondo East and Ondo West, the Itesiwaju Movement on Wednesday met with the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, calling for urgent action to curb cultism, gang violence, and rising criminal activity in the region. The group, led by Barrister Motunrayo Akindele on behalf of its convener, Dr. Femi Akinkuebi, emphasized the need for a people-first, civic-led approach to security. Barrister Akindele reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with law enforcement to promote peace and address the root causes of violence.During the meeting, the group harped on the need to decisively crack down on criminal elements threatening the safety of the people. CP Lawal responded with a strong assurance that the police will intensify efforts to rid Ondo communities of cultists and violent gangs, urging residents to stop shielding known offenders.Other members of the delegation, including Kehinde Betiku, Olumide Akintayo, Aseyege Olaitan, and Jonah Temitope, also proposed community collaboration, anonymous reporting channels, youth engagement, and media advocacy as key strategies to promote safety and rebuild public trust. The CP welcomed the group’s ideas, pledged continued partnership, and expressed readiness to participate in regular town halls and work more closely with local groups and the Police Community Relations Committee. The Itesiwaju Movement described the meeting as a critical step toward restoring peace through inclusive, citizen-driven solutions. “Peace is our priority. Development is our mission. Itesiwaju Ondo lo je wa logun.”
