WhatsApp Banned From US House of Representatives Staff Devices
Is WhatsApp safe to use? Meta says yes, with biometric chat locking and password-encrypted backups. However, the US House of Representatives has banned staff from installing WhatsApp on government-issued devices.The reason given is due to a lack of transparency from WhatsApp about their privacy and security framework. Staff looking for alternative apps are allowed to install Microsoft Teams, Wickr, Signal, iMessage or FaceTime as a replacement at this time.This WhatsApp ban is similar to the one issued in 2022 against TikTok for the same reason. Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, issued a statement on X saying he strongly disagreed with the order.
