Intel to Close Automotive Technology Division Soon
In the process of downsizing its team and focusing its efforts on building its reputation as a leading semiconductor chip designer and manufacturer, Intel appears to be making another staff cut, and this time it will affect its automotive technology division.Oregon Live has reported that Intel employees and engineers in its automotive technology development division are telling us that the division will be cut soon. This is not surprising, because while Intel says that its automotive components are used in more than 50 million vehicles and dominate its infotainment and performance optimization divisions, the fact is that the revenue and profits from this automotive sector are so small that they are typically not reported.Intel also owns a majority stake in Israeli automotive technology company Mobileye, but it is said that the company will not be affected by the closure. They also confirmed that all existing customer requests will be met before the closure of this division begins.
