Fairphone 6 Launched With De-Googled Operating System and Easy-to-Repair Components
The Fairphone 6 was launched today and like previous Fairphone models, it is marketed as a device that can be easily repaired by the owner if damaged and this time uses a new operating system that has been de-Googled.The /e/OS operating system is based on Android 15 but without Google applications installed like other Android devices. Users are given the option to still use it through the micro G system if needed. The device will receive updates for up to five years.The device comes with a 6.31″ P-OLED LTPO 120Hz screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. This is matched with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that can be expanded up to 2TB using a microSD card. The battery is 4415 mAh which supports 30W charging.The main camera consists of a 50MP wide-angle lens and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. On the front, the selfie camera is 32MP. The Fairphone 6 has a modular design that allows 12 major components of the device to be replaced by the user. The body of the device also passes the IP55 standard.All materials used to build the Fairphone 6 are also ensured to respect human rights and the components can be easily recycled.Therefore, despite being a mid-range device, each Murena Fairphone (Gen. 6) is sold for $899 (~RM 3810) each in white, green and black colors.
