Oppo Reno14 Pro 5G Review – Neat, Versatile and Efficient

The Oppo Reno14 Pro maintains the main identity of the series such as curved corners, almost the same screen size and a sturdy aluminum frame. The basic design is still maintained, but cosmetic improvements to the back and camera module give it a fresher and more modern appearance, in line with current trends. In the latest generation, the Reno14 Pro comes with several improvements that provide added value to users. Among them is a more sophisticated camera system that produces high-quality photos and videos according to lighting conditions. Overall performance is improved through the use of a more efficient processor chip while the software has also been improved to ensure smoother operation. Here is a full review of the Oppo Reno14 Pro.SpecificationsOPPO Reno14 Pro 5G6.83-inch 120Hz screen, HDR10+, 1200 nits1272 x 2800 pixels (~450 ppi density)Corning Gorilla Glass 7iMediatek Dimensity 8450 processor (4 nm)Octa-core 3.25 GHz chipMali-G720 MC7 Graphics ChipRAM 12GB RAM LPDDR5XVirtual RAM (+12GB RAM)Internal Storage 512GB UFS 4.0Main Camera 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), OIS50 MP, f/2.8, (periscope telephoto) OIS50 MP, f/2.0, (ultrawide), AFFront Camera 50 MP, f/2.06200 mAh batteryWired 80WWireless 50WDual SIM Nano SIM/Telephony /5GNFC YesInfrared YesWaterproof IP68/69Scanning System Fingerprint ScanFace ScanSelling Price RM2999 (12/512GB)Usage ExperienceThe first time you hold the device, the design looks neat and comfortable in your hand. The back is made of smooth glass that reflects light depending on the viewing angle, while the aluminum alloy frame with a matte finish completes the premium appearance. With a thickness of about 7.3 millimeters and a weight of 187 grams, this device is suitable for all-day use.The front of the Reno14 is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i which helps reduce the effects of daily use and minor scratches. The screen uses a 6.83-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display looks bright with smooth animation movements, while the 240Hz touch sampling rate can ensure fast responses especially when playing mobile games. When the screen is activated, the Reno14 display looks bright and clear. The flat screen design also helps reduce accidental touches on the sides. Widevine L1 support enables HD content streaming through apps like Netflix and YouTube, while HDR is also supported in certain compatible apps. The Reno14 features a quad-camera module that resembles the latest iPhone style. It houses two main sensors along with an additional sensor in a neat capsule cutout, complete with neatly arranged LED lights. The glossy back adds an attractive visual element but is easy to trap fingerprints. The absence of a 3.5mm audio jack may be a constraint for some users who still rely on wired accessories. The Reno14 Pro features a back finish with an Iridescent Mermaid Design pattern inspired by the shimmer of mermaid scales. This finish produces a soft rainbow light effect when exposed to lighting from certain angles for a unique visual touch. This design offers a slightly different appearance and has the potential to appeal to young users who value uniqueness. The Reno14 Pro comes in two color options, namely Opal White with bright hues and multi-directional light reflections and Titanium Gray which appears more minimalist. Its physical dimensions are slightly different with a thickness of around 7.48mm and a weight of 201g. The rounded sides with balanced bezels provide a comfortable grip while the perforated screen design in the middle maintains a neat minimalist style. The physical layout of the Reno14 Pro is designed in a neat manner. The power button and audio controls are placed on the right side while the infrared emitter on the top offers additional functions for controlling devices such as televisions or electronic gadgets. At the bottom, there is a USB-C port and a speaker. While the absence of a 3.5mm audio jack may not be a good fit for some users, the infrared function adds value in terms of usability. The Reno14 Pro passes the IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings for comprehensive protection against dust, moisture and water pressure to a certain extent. The platinum-plated USB port also helps reduce the risk of corrosion in the long term. Throughout daily use, the device shows a satisfactory level of physical durability, as long as it is used according to the manufacturer's recommended guidelines. The Reno14 Pro comes with security features such as an in-screen fingerprint scanner and facial recognition. Both of these functions work well to unlock the device, but their effectiveness may be affected by the lighting and scanning angle during use.The device is also equipped with a stereo audio system. The sound quality produced by the speakers is clearly audible, including at maximum volume levels, without any noticeable disruption to audio performance. The audio experience through the earphones on the Reno14 Pro is satisfactory. It is equipped with several customizable mode options such as Smart, Movie, Game and Music for adjusting the audio according to the usage scenario. However, this device does not support FM radio broadcasts. In addition, the Reno14 Pro supports wireless charging which provides convenience in various situations without relying on cables.Hardware and SoftwareThe Reno14 Pro uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 (4nm) chip. The device is also equipped with a memory option of up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage, as well as supporting up to 12GB of virtual RAM for a more responsive user experience.Throughout daily use, the Reno14 Pro showed stable and smooth operating performance without any noticeable issues. The touch screen response and smooth scrolling were found to work well and consistently. Overall, the performance of this device is seen to be able to support daily tasks well in line with the capabilities and specifications of current smartphones.AnTuTu 3DScore DeviceOppo Reno14 Pro 1437541Honor 400 Pro 1861573Xiaomi 15 2,341,598Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 1,946,864Oppo Find X8 Pro 2,629,017Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 1,720,751Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 1,016,712Geekbench 6Single Core Multi Core DeviceOppo Reno14 Pro 1615 6174Honor 400 Pro 12024 6083Xiaomi 15 2918 8917Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 2957 9435Oppo Find X8 Pro 2663 8959Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 3359 8129Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 1916 46443DMark Wildlife ExtremeScore ChipOppo Reno14 Pro 3780Honor 400 Pro 4467Xiaomi 15 Not possibleSamsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 6135Oppo Find X8 Pro 6251Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 4560Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 2567Reno14 Pro offers stable gaming performance in most situations. For the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), the Ultra graphics settings can be used with a maximum frame rate of up to 121fps. However, in some situations, this rate may drop to around 114 to 112fps depending on the level of game intensity. However, when using High or Ultra settings with a rate of 60fps, the performance remains consistent and stable throughout the game session. The graphics quality and animation movement feel smooth providing a satisfying gaming experience. Throughout the test, no significant heat issues were detected that could interfere with game performance. For the game Honor of Kings (HOK), Reno14 Pro is able to maintain a stable frame rate of 60fps when played at High or Ultra settings. When set to Max or Ultra, the maximum frame rate achieved is up to 120fps with a slight drop to around 117fps in certain situations. Throughout the gaming session, this device operates in a warm state without showing a significant increase in temperature.Reno14 Pro comes with the ColorOS 15 operating system based on Android 15. This system offers various smart and practical features to improve the daily usage experience. The interface is seen as user-friendly. The Floating Windows function allows applications to be opened in small windows, while the user remains in the main application. The Large Folders function allows folders to be enlarged on the home screen for quick access to favorite applications. The Stacked Layout arranges notifications and widgets more neatly and efficiently.ColorOS 15 also features AI-based features to support easy information management. The AI Mind Space function allows notes and phone numbers to be saved by simply swiping three fingers on the screen. AI VoiceScribe offers the ability to record, translate and summarize conversations in over 20 languages. AI Call Summary and AI Translator also work to summarize the content of calls and automatically provide live translations during calls. For the photography experience, the system includes AI Perfect Shot and AI Recompose. Both features are used to automatically correct facial expressions and photo composition based on image references in the gallery. It can help produce neater photos without the need for manual editing. For mobile gaming enthusiasts, ColorOS 15 supports AI HyperBoost 2.0. This feature maintains stable frame rates during intensive games. AI LinkBoost 3.0 also ensures smooth network connections even in weak coverage areas. It is also integrated with Google Gemini AI. Through Gemini Assistant, users can manage their schedules and daily tasks using applications such as Calendar and Notes.Device CameraReno14 Pro is equipped with a main tri-camera system. It consists of a 50MP wide lens with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens that supports up to 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide with a wide viewing angle of 116 degrees. The device's camera also includes several additional features such as a color spectrum sensor for better light sensitivity, LED light support for night shots, and HDR and panorama modes to produce more balanced images.Reno14 Pro also supports video recording up to 4K resolution at 30 or 60 frames per second, as well as slow-motion recording at 1080p resolution up to 240fps. The device's camera is also equipped with gyro-EIS technology and HDR support that helps produce stable and clear videos in most situations.Reno14 Pro offers AI Flash Photography technology designed to improve recording results in low-light conditions. The system supports additional lighting that can automatically adjust according to the surrounding conditions to ensure that the subject looks more balanced. The performance of this function also depends on several factors such as the distance between the subject and the camera, as well as the ambient lighting level during recording.Reno14 Pro also offers several AI-based smart editing features for neater images and videos. Through the AI Recompose function, users can re-compose the image. It is useful for images taken from an awkward angle. Rearranging the composition makes the photo look more balanced. AI Perfect Shot also helps correct facial expressions in spontaneous shots. Examples include closed eyes or awkward smiles. The device also allows users to convert 4K video recordings into moving images. They can select specific frames from the video recording. The selected frames can be turned into high-resolution still photos suitable for saving or sharing. There is also an Underwater Recording Mode that allows images to be recorded near or underwater. Users are advised to follow the usage guidelines to ensure the performance and safety of the device is guaranteed when recording in humid environments.Image QualityThe main camera of Reno14 Pro works well. The resulting images look sharp and full of clear details. Colors are also bright and balanced. The dynamic range is seen well in most conditions. The ultra-wide lens is still able to maintain overall detail. However, small objects such as leaves may appear less sharp than the main subject. The effect of distortion on the sides of the image is very minimal. In fact, it is hardly noticeable and does not significantly affect the image. In portrait mode, the Reno14 Pro camera sometimes has difficulty separating the main subject from the background. This situation usually occurs when there are other objects that are visually in contact with the main subject. Such errors can affect the bokeh effect produced. However, the overall bokeh result still looks attractive. The separation of subjects in portrait mode is not always neat. The confusion in recognition is more pronounced when the background contains complex elements. These errors can affect the clarity of the subject and the background blur effect. In addition, there is a small change in skin tone when the zoom function is used. At the 3.5x zoom level, the skin tone appears slightly reddish. On the other hand, at 1x and 2x zoom, the skin tone looks more natural and resembles the original hue.Night shots using the Reno14 Pro performed well. In conditions of too bright backlighting, the subject may appear faded. The Radiance filter can help improve image quality in low-light conditions. The image still looks sharp, but additional lighting can help get better results. The noise problem is at a manageable level. It does not affect the overall quality of the image at all.The Reno14 Pro's automatic flash mode works like a feature of old digital cameras. It helps brighten the subject without causing an overexposed effect. The details of the subject are still clearly visible. When the flash is turned on continuously, the light not only focuses on the main subject, but also illuminates the background for a more balanced image result.Despite the assistance of AI, the photos taken still look natural and do not show the effects of excessive editing. However, the automatic flash performance is quite limited. It only really works in very dark environments. The flash is also sometimes inconsistent in identifying the ambient lighting level.Battery And ChargingDuring the review period, the Reno14 Pro showed satisfactory battery performance. The device is equipped with a 6,200mAh battery. For users with a SOT of five hours or less, the battery can last up to a day and a half. In more extreme use with a SOT of around seven hours, the battery remaining is still at around 30%. The device also supports 80W fast charging which takes about 50 minutes to fully charge. In addition, it offers 50W wireless charging. What’s in the BoxHere’s what’s included in the box we received:1 x Oppo Reno14 Pro.1 x 80W Charging Head.1 x USB-C to USB-A Cable.1 x Silicone Case.1 x User Manual.1 x SIM Ejector. The Reno14 Pro is a device that offers a balance in terms of design, performance and smart features. It is suitable for users who prioritize a smooth daily experience, comprehensive AI support and a versatile camera system. On the positive side, the Reno14 Pro features a premium design with a Velvet Glass finish and a sturdy aluminum build. The 6.83-inch AMOLED display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ for a sharp, bright and responsive visual experience. The 50MP tri-camera system including a 3.5x telephoto offers consistent portrait and optical zoom results in a variety of lighting conditions. The device is also equipped with a 6,200mAh battery that can last more than a day with support for 80W fast charging and 50W wireless charging for added convenience. In addition, AI-based features such as AI VoiceScribe and AI Flash Photography help improve daily productivity through more efficient recording, editing and automatic translation. However, there are some limitations that deserve attention. The performance of the night and ultra-wide cameras can still be improved, especially in terms of flare control and color accuracy. The lack of RAW format support in Pro mode also limits manual control, especially for users who are more skilled in photography. In addition, ColorOS still includes pre-installed applications such as Hot Apps and App Market that can potentially disrupt the user experience for some users. While there is room for improvement in several aspects such as night photography and interface coordination, the Reno14 Pro 5G remains a balanced choice for users who prioritize style, versatile camera capabilities, and efficient daily performance.ProsPremium and durable design.1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display with HDR10+Adequate performance with the Dimensity 8450.50MP tri-camera with OIS.Large battery and fast charging.AI support and interesting camera features.ConsCamera performance in low light is still weak.No microSD card support. No 3.5mm audio jack.Battery life was found to be inconsistent in some usage situations. The presence of bulky applications can potentially disrupt the user experience.Device performance decreases slightly when the temperature rises.
