The Singapore Food Authority Now Allows The Use Of Insects As Food In The Country

Entomophagy, or the science of insect nutrition, is nothing new. Every year, more and more countries are now seen allowing the use of insects as food that can be eaten not only by farm animals, but also by humans.Singapore is the latest country that is now seen allowing the use of insects as food not only for farm animals but also for the people of the country. The Singapore Food Authority has recently issued a statement that they have allowed the use of a number of insects as food in the country. This decision was made after seeing a number of countries in the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Korea decide to allow the eating of insects for their people.Among the insects allowed to be eaten by the SFA include grasshoppers, million grasshoppers, mealworms, crickets and so on. For the SFA, they say that they test the insects to ensure that they do not emit gas or poisonous substances when cooked to avoid the issue of poisoning to humans and livestock. The SFA said that they will update the list of insects that are safe to eat from time to time.
