UMPSA Students Develop Smart Motorcycle Security System

Muhammad Syahir Mohamed Salim, a student at the Faculty of Computing (FK) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), has successfully developed a smart motorcycle security system known as the Intelligent Keyless Motorcycle Access Security System.This project was developed as a result of discussions with his supervisor, Ts. Dr. Kohbalan a/l Moorthy with an emphasis on efforts to address the issue of motorcycle theft and the weaknesses of using physical keys.Through the developed system, owners can access motorcycles using smartphones and RFID cards in addition to tracking the location of the vehicle in real time.This project is divided into two parts, namely the development of a system that functions to interact with motorcycles.Meanwhile, the electronic part uses components such as Arduino, LED, buzzer and RFID where each light and sound signal serves as confirmation of the motorcycle's status whether it is ready, on or off.This project began development in 2023 and was successfully completed in June 2024 at a cost of around RM1000. In addition to benefiting individual owners, this system also has the potential to be applied in the industry, especially motorcycle rental companies.Muhammad Syahir also plans to add access card sharing features via smartphone, GPS API integration for location monitoring and remote control that allows motorcycles to be locked or access to certain users to be restricted.The innovation received support from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (CAIDAS), in addition to gaining recognition at the competition level when it was awarded a silver medal at iCE-Cinno 2024 and a gold medal with the Most Impactful ICT Award at CITREX 2025.
