Ticks active in Macomb County; how to protect yourself during summer

Macomb County health officials are recommending residents protect against exposure to ticks, which are active in the summer and can cause illnesses such as Lyme disease. Officials from the county Department of Health said blacklegged ticks, which are parasites that can attach to the body, are active in the county and throughout Michigan. Ticks tested positive in the county in 2023, 2022 and 2021 for the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, officials said. Results of 2024 tests are not yet available.
