Archaeologists have unearthed a 1,400-year-old Christian cross near Abu Dhabi, during the first major excavation on the on Sir Bani Yas Island island in three decades. Officials said the find they say sheds new light on an early Christian presence in the southern Gulf. The carved cross, about 27 centimeters long (10.6 inches), 17 centimeters wide (6.7 inches) and roughly 2 centimeters thick (0.8 inches), was found face-down in the floor of a room interpreted as part of a monastic complex.
