Vietnamese Flee Flooded Homes

She fears it will be her last chance to see her home as devastating floods threaten the Vietnamese capital amid rising typhoon Yogi. He was one of thousands of people forced from their homes in the Vietnamese capital as the murky brown waters of swollen rivers rose to levels not seen in 15 years. “I'm afraid my house will be flooded if the water level continues to rise,” Hue told AFP, adding that he saw cracks spreading across the floor of the house. “I was worried and scared,” he added. Carrying televisions and other household appliances, Hue and some of his neighbors were the last group of residents to leave their homes in the community next to a fast-flowing river. Heavy rains caused by Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful typhoon to hit northern Vietnam in 30 years, have caused the Red River and its tributaries to overflow their banks, triggering floods and landslides in more than a dozen provinces, killing at least 82 people.
