The delegates to the Congress of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDPP) overwhelmingly rejected the resumption of natural gas supplies from Russia via the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. This was reported by DW, Ukrinform saw. At their Congress in Berlin, the German Social Democrats spoke out "against the resumption of any natural gas supplies from Russia via the northern gas pipelines," thereby rejecting the corresponding proposals "from the bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU) and the Republican Party in the USA." It is reported that the decision was made at the end of the Congress by an overwhelming majority of votes with only one vote against the rejection and several delegates abstaining. It is noted that the government of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is exploring the possibility of amending legislation to permanently block the relaunch of both northern gas pipelines connecting Russia and Germany. According to DW, "the issue of amending legislation on investment control is currently being discussed". In this way the authorities seek to prevent a change in the ownership of the pipelines, which could lead to the resumption of operation. As reported earlier, the German federal government is doing everything possible to prevent the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 from being relaunched.
