Denmark assumes EU Council Presidency

As of July 1, Denmark has taken over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months and presented its program outlining key priorities. This was announced on the official website dedicated to the Danish presidency. Under the motto “A Strong Europe in a Changing World,” Denmark will focus on strengthening the EU’s security, competitiveness, and environmental sustainability. “The EU is facing a new international order marked by uncertainty, global strategic and economic competition, and rising levels of conflict. That is why the EU must be able to act independently,” the statement says. It stresses that the strength of the EU lies, among other things, in European unity, a solid economic foundation, stable democracies, and socially balanced societies. “This strength must be further developed and used to promote and protect both European interests and the international legal order,” the statement adds. During its EU presidency, Denmark will work toward “building a strong and decisive Union that takes responsibility for its own security and enhances its competitiveness.” “This requires the EU to back up its words with action and address the challenges it faces. The green transition is a necessary condition for building a safer and more competitive Europe,” the statement concludes. Denmark takes over the presidency from Poland. On the eve of the transition, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and other government representatives summarized the achievements of Poland’s term. It is worth noting that progress in EU-Ukraine accession talks was one of the key priorities of the Polish presidency. However, as is known, Hungary blocked the process.
