Zelenskyy Held a Phone Call with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed details of his phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, which took place on the afternoon of July 4. The official statement appeared on Zelenskyy’s account on X. Zelenskyy described the conversation as “very important and useful” and said he began by congratulating Trump and the American people on U.S. Independence Day and thanking them for the support already provided. “Today we discussed the situation: Russian airstrikes and, more broadly, the situation on the front lines. President Trump is very well informed — I’m grateful for this attention to Ukraine. We discussed air defense opportunities and agreed to work on enhancing protection of the skies. Our teams will hold a corresponding meeting,” Zelenskyy said. He added that they also had a detailed discussion on the prospects of joint defense production. “We are ready for direct projects with the United States and believe this is extremely necessary for security — especially when it comes to drones and related technologies,” he stated. According to Zelenskyy, the presidents also talked about mutual procurement and investments, and exchanged views on the diplomatic landscape and joint cooperation with the U.S. and other partners. The White House and Donald Trump have not yet issued any statements regarding the call. Earlier, Zelenskyy had said he planned to discuss the resumption of Patriot missile deliveries with Trump. On Thursday, he also announced that Ukraine had signed agreements with several American companies for the joint production of UAVs, including interceptor drones. On July 3, Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After that call, Trump admitted there had been no progress on ending the war in Ukraine and expressed his disappointment.
