Belarus Frees 14 Political Prisoners, Including Siarhei Tsikhanouski

Belarus has released 14 political prisoners with the support of the United States and Lithuania. The news was confirmed by John Cole, Deputy to U.S. Special Representative Keith Kellogg, according to Zerkalo and reported by Ukrinform. “Thanks to the strong leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump, 14 prisoners were freed from Belarus today. We thank the Lithuanian government for their cooperation and assistance. They remain a true friend and ally,” Cole wrote on social media platform X. Among those released are prominent opposition figures Siarhei Tsikhanouski, Ihar Losik, Natallia Dulinа, Ihar Karniy, and Halina Krasnyanskaya. Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya shared a video on her Telegram channel showing her emotional reunion in Vilnius with the newly freed prisoners, including her husband Siarhei. As reported earlier, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko recently met in Minsk with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg. Tsikhanouski was sentenced in December 2021 to 18 years in a high-security penal colony by the Homel Regional Court.
