Russia’s war casualties highest over past two months – British intelligence

Average daily combat losses (killed and wounded) Russia’s invasion forces suffered in Ukraine in May and June 2024 were the highest since the large-scale invasion, standing at an average of 1,262 and 1,163, respectively. This was reported on X by the UK Defense Ministry, referring to intelligence data, Ukrinform saw. In total, over the past two months, Russia likely lost (killed and wounded) over 70,000 personnel. The increase in losses reflects Russia's opening of the new front in Kharkiv region while maintaining the same pace of offensive operations along the remainder of the front, British intelligence notes. "Although this new approach has increased the pressure on the frontline, an effective Ukrainian defence and a lack of Russian training reduce Russia's ability to exploit any tactical successes, despite attempting to stretch the frontline further," the report reads. British intelligence foresees that Russia’s daily casualties are likely to average over 1,000 for the next two months as Russia continues to try to “overmatch Ukrainian positions with mass”. As Ukrinform reported earlier, referring to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the total combat casualties Russian troops suffered from February 24, 2022 to July 12, 2024 reached an estimated 556,650, including 1,030 in the past day alone.
