As part of the 75th NATO Summit in Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Joseph Biden. At the beginning of the meeting, Joseph Biden announced a new defense package for Ukraine. "I am grateful to you, your team, your administration, Congress – both parties, both chambers – and the entire American people for the vital and strong support of the people of Ukraine. Together we are saving the lives of our people," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The President of Ukraine noted that aid from the United States enabled Ukrainian defenders to hold back the Russian advance in the Kharkiv region. He also highlighted the support for Ukraine's energy system from the US. The Ukrainian President thanked President Biden for his personal statement following the Russian strike on the children's hospital "Okhmatdyt" and for the decision by the US and its partners to bolster Ukraine's air defenses with five new Patriot systems and dozens of other systems. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also emphasized the importance of combating Russian guided aerial bombs. "We need swift actions to lift all restrictions for our military," he said. During the meeting, the leaders also discussed restoring a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. "For peace to be restored as soon as possible, we need a second Peace Summit this year. We very much count on America's support in this matter," said the President of Ukraine. Joseph Biden stressed that Ukraine had stopped the Russian advance in the Kharkiv region and inflicted significant losses on them. "You have made it clear that Russia will not prevail in Ukraine. Ukraine will prevail. And I want you to know that we will be with you every step of the way," he added. The US President noted that the defense package announced today is the eighth one he has authorized since signing the national security bill. "And we are working with our NATO allies to ensure Ukraine is flying F-16s this summer, and we will show the world that we stand with Ukraine now and in the future," stated Joseph Biden.
