A Taiwan delegation led by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Administration hosted activities to promote Taiwan’s tourist attractions in Fukuoka, Kobe and Osaka June 27-30, highlighting government commitment to attracting more Japanese visitors to the country. Comprising representatives from 23 local governments, leisure farms, accommodation establishments and other tourism sectors, the group held a roadshow June 28-29 at Harborland Space Theater in Kobe. The event featured cultural and creative food and beverages, do-it-yourself craft activities, a Taiwan drink map created by artist Lee Wen-cheng and a performance by singer Sandy HXM. Several Japanese celebrities were invited to join the roadshow, including photographer Yuta Murakami and actress Yukino Saito, who together described how to travel by rail in Taiwan during a seminar. Actress Hitomi Miyauchi also shared her experience visiting Taiwan during the event. Two business matchmaking events were held June 27 and June 30 in Fukuoka and Osaka, respectively. Attended by over 100 Japanese travel agencies and media outlets, the TA successfully facilitated over 300 connections between Taiwan tourism enterprises and Japanese counterparts, it said, adding that the administration cooperated with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council to promote business tourism spanning meetings, conferences, exhibitions and incentive travel. According to the TA, statistics show that Japan was Taiwan’s largest source of tourists in the first quarter of this year. The administration will continue to target different demographics by promoting cruise tourism, family travel and school trips while collaborating with the Japan Association of Travel Agents to host activities such as Yehliu Night Tours and the sky lantern festival in New Taipei City.
