First Australia-based GCTF workshop takes place

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Australia and Griffith University Asia Institute, held a Global Cooperation Training Framework workshop Aug. 5-6, in Brisbane, the first time that such an event has taken place in Australia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   Titled “Communication during a time of crisis: Practical approaches and lessons learned in the Pacific,” the event drew 52 academic, civil, government and media attendees from 14 countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Palau and Taiwan. They exchanged views on how Pacific island nations are strengthening media resilience to respond to natural disasters and public health crises, demonstrating their commitment to free and open media in the Indo-Pacific region.   Douglas Hsu, Taiwan's chief representative to Australia, noted that real time and transparent communication is particularly vital during emergencies. He added that Taiwan would continue to work with like-minded countries to promote regional security and stability.   The GCTF was launched by Taiwan and the U.S. in 2015 and the organization was subsequently joined by Japan, Australia and Canada. Since its inception, it has become a collaboration platform for Taiwan and likeminded partners.
