Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee member, James Kwesi Appiah, has expressed optimism that the budding relationship between the Ghanaian giants and South African club Kaizer Chiefs will endure beyond the immediate fixtures on their calendar. He made the remarks during a formal event hosted at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where Kotoko welcomed a delegation from Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the upcoming Toyota Cup.The South African side is expected to host Asante Kotoko on July 28 in the friendly fixture, and as part of the build-up, a contingent led by club legend Siyabonga Nomvethe visited Ghana to strengthen ties and promote the match.Appiah, a former Ghana coach and now a key figure in Kotoko’s interim leadership, underlined the importance of collaboration between two of Africa’s most storied football institutions.“I believe my players here are not going to let me down. It’s—the Toyota Cup game—going to be very entertaining. I hope that we continue this relationship because it shouldn’t be a one-year thing,” he stated. The match in South Africa forms part of wider efforts to deepen sporting cooperation between the clubs and revive pan-African club engagements through cultural and competitive exchanges.
