Dave Uffelmann will lead the 17-member board of directors for Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), which includes three new members. Uffelmann, who most recently served as the board's vice chair, was formally appointed as board chair Monday evening during MAHC's annual general meeting. With Uffelmann sitting at the head of the table, he will be joined by new members Carla Clarkson-Ladd, Colleen Nisbet, and Jody Boxall who were appointed for three-year terms ending in June 2027. Uffelmann took the opportunity to thank Moreen Miller, outgoing board chair, for the work she did during her two-year term. "All of us know how dedicated Moreen has been in her role as board chair," said Uffelmann. He complimented her for the dedication she showed by always being first to offer support no matter the day or time, adding how important of a role she played during the ongoing hospital redevelopment project. Uffelmann added how grateful he is that Miller spent some time over the past two years helping him prepare to become board chair. "There were lots of challenges over the last couple of years but there was huge progress and she's leaving an incredibly strong foundation," he said. Miller will continue as a member of the board of directors for another year. "This is new territory for me," she said. "I hope I can do it right." Uffelmann said MAHC has heard "loud and clear" the community's concern with the ongoing redevelopment process, adding how discussion with stakeholders will continue and their feedback will be used to modify the plan, if needed. "There's $1 billion from the province and our local communities," he said about the local share and Ministry of Health commitments for the project. "That's an enormous gift and we have to work well with that to provide the highest quality possible for healthcare." Uffelmann added how after years and years of discussion, creating plans, reworking plans, and meetings he feels like MAHC is on the right path. "We're getting very close now," he said.
