The recent heat wave may have cancelled The Mayor’s Bike Ride, but the event still managed to donate some bikes. The event was originally scheduled for June 13 but was rescheduled to June 18 due to forecasted thunderstorms. Mayor Nancy Alcock said the event being canceled was a “real bummer” adding she has participated in every mayor's bike ride since it was first initiated in 2015. “Last year was the first year that we actually started to fundraise through this event,” said Alcock. “We provided six bicycles and helmets for kids in our community.” Alcock said this year, thanks to their sponsors, they were able to give away seven bikes and helmets for kids in the community. “A couple of months ago, we have been asking for sponsors from organizations or people who want to be part of this. People who don't necessarily go out and participate in the ride but are just community-minded people and like the opportunity to be able to contribute,” Alcock added. She said they received two sponsorships from the Rotary Club of Huntsville and one from the Rotary Club of North Muskoka, Huntsville Firefighters Association, Trimuskoka, and Muskoka Bicycle Pro Shop. “We have some incredibly committed and generous people living in our community,” Alcock added.
