Fire ban in effect for Campbell River starting Friday

Campbell River will officially put a fire ban in place beginning on Friday. The BC Wildfire Service announced a campfire as of Friday to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. The City’s ban applies to all recreational fires, including campfires, beach fires, and backyard fires within its fire protection area. Fire chief Dan Verdun says following this ban is a simple, but crucial action to take. “Although the fire ban is coming into effect on July 12, we encourage everyone to be extremely careful if having recreational fires, like beach fires, between now and then,” said Verdun. “Conditions are hot and dry, and we are all responsible for fire safety.” The city says along with this ban, all open burning and use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burning barrels, and torches are also banned. Failing to follow the ban could mean fines and legal action that follows bylaws and provincial regulations. If you spot any recreational fires, you are encouraged to report it by calling the city’s fire department at 250-286-6266.
