Shmyhal Discusses Ukraine–NATO Defense Cooperation with Rutte

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held talks in Kyiv with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on strengthening defense cooperation between Ukraine and the Alliance. Shmyhal reported the meeting on Telegram. “I was glad to welcome NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv. We had a substantive and meaningful dialogue on Ukraine’s defense cooperation with the Alliance,” Shmyhal said. He highlighted Rutte’s leadership in launching NATO initiatives to support Ukraine. In particular, under the PURL mechanism, jointly developed with NATO and the United States, about $1.5 billion in military assistance has already been mobilized. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuing productive cooperation within the Coalition of the Willing. Shmyhal and Rutte also discussed preparations for the next Ramstein-format meeting and the future strengthening of NATO’s role. “We coordinated on issues of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine and developing the defense industry. Our priorities are clear: achieving NATO standards, integrating into global supply chains, introducing innovations and technologies tested in battle,” Shmyhal underlined. He expressed gratitude to NATO and its Secretary General for their strong and unwavering support of Ukraine. “Together we are building a peaceful and secure future for the next generations,” Shmyhal emphasized.
