FM Lin attends semiconductors and geopolitics forum

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung attended the 2025 Forum on Semiconductors and Geopolitics: Navigating Supply Chain Resilience and Strategic Realignment, Sept. 9 in Taipei City, highlighting Taiwan’s commitment to safeguarding its supply chain security while deepening cooperation with democratic partners against a background of evolving U.S.-China technology competitiveness.   Jointly Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chung-hua Institute for Economic Research, Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology and Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, the event brought over 200 academics, experts and officials together from home and abroad.   Speakers came from eight countries and territories such as Vietnam, Japan and the U.S., and included authors on the subject, Marc Hijink, Ota Yasuhiko and Philip Wong, the MOFA said. The panel session focused on supply chain resilience, navigating strategic shifts in the global landscape and emerging roles in global technology—from semiconductors to digital innovation, the ministry added.    Lin noted that Taiwan has secured a strategic position in the global semiconductor supply chain amid geopolitical turmoil. The country plays a key role in the international artificial intelligence industrial chain, he added, citing Taiwan’s participation in the U.S. Stargate Project and its importance in AI enterprise layouts including Google LLC and Microsoft Corp. In turn, Apple Inc. and Nvidia Corp. both invest in Taiwan.   The minister further suggested strengthening collaboration with the U.S. in creating AI chips and implementing AI applications. The ministry will continue leveraging its integrated diplomacy, while working with the private sector and enhancing the country’s hard and soft capabilities. Lin titled this concept “A New Flying Geese Paradigm with a Combined Fleet,” and said it would lead Taiwan to connect with the world. He concluded by pledging to build Trusted Technology Taiwan to make the country the best partner for democracies worldwide in promoting the development of AI and non-red supply chains.   According to the MOFA, other topics addressed by speakers included the impacts on semiconductors by U.S. President Donald Trump’s new measures and ways to counter China’s economic coercion.
