A workshop on strengthening supply chain resilience was held Sept. 4-5 in Vilnius under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Jointly Organized by the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania, U.S. Embassy in Lithuania, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vilnius-based nongovernmental organization Civic Resilience Initiative, the event was attended by nearly 110 academics, experts and officials from countries including Taiwan, Japan, Lithuania, Palau and the U.S., the MOFA said. During this, the second GCTF workshop held in Lithuania, discussions focused on rethinking supply chains, innovation and flexibility, as well as public-private cooperation, the ministry stated. TRO in Lithuania Head Constance H. Wang said that democracies currently face economic coercion from authoritarian regimes. She added that Taiwan is willing and able to share its experience to jointly build a more resilient supply chain. According to the MOFA, the U.S. Ambassador Kara McDonald, Lithuanian Vice Foreign Minister Julius Pranevičius and CRI Co-founder and Director Tomas Kazulėnas all stressed the importance of collaboration among democracies to enhance supply chain security. Roy Chun Lee, head of the TRO in the EU and Belgium, delivered an online keynote speech on economic resilience under increasing geopolitical tensions, while Palau’s Minister of Justice Jennifer Olegeriil shared her country’s experience in countering economic coercion. Since its launch in 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S., the GCTF has become established as a vital platform for facilitating discussion of solutions for global issues. The initiative was later joined by Japan, Australia and Canada, and affiliated events have been held outside the founding countries since 2021. (YCH-E) Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
