Set fines approved for excessive noise

Belleville Council will look to crack down on repeat noise offenders in the city with fines. Council approved a list of set fines for noise at its meeting on Monday. All fines for infractions such as shouting, amplified music, revving vehicle engines or using power tools, among others, would be set at $250. The highest fine would be $500 for obstructing an officer. Manager of By-law enforcement Aggie Hill stated in a report to council that revenue generated from fines will contribute to covering expenses and enhancing community educational initiatives, as well as focusing on deterrence.
