Zelenskyy says Russia could attack NATO country within five years

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has told that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin could attack a NATO country within five years “to test the Alliance”. The head of state made this statement in an interview with Sky News presenter Mark Austin, according to Ukrinform. According to Zelenskyy, plans for NATO members to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035 are "very slow". “We believe that, starting from 2030, Putin can have significantly greater capabilities. Today, Ukraine is holding him up, he has no time to drill the army,” the President added. He also noted that Russian soldiers getting annihilated and wiped out at the battlefield. “In any case, [Putin] needs a pause, he needs sanctions to be lifted, he needs a drilled army. And 10 years is a very long time. He will have a new army ready [by then],” Zelenskyy said. At the same time, when asked whether Russia could attack within a few months, Zelenskyy said he does not believe that Putin is ready. As previously reported, Zelenskyy arrived in the UK on Monday, where he met with King Charles III. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also agreed to jointly produce interceptor drones and long-range drones during their meeting. The Ukrainian head of state revealed this in an interview with Sky News presenter Mark Austin, Ukrinform reports. “Yes, I’m going to [meet with Trump]. I don’t know exactly how it will happen — I’ll be honest with you. Our teams are working on it. Yes, we’re planning to meet,” Zelenskyy said, noting that both teams are “discussing the timing” of the meeting. When asked whether he thinks Trump has a better relationship with Putin than with the Ukrainian leader, Zelensky responded: “That’s a very difficult question, because I don’t know what kind of relationship Trump has with Putin… I’m sure that President Trump understands that Ukrainians are allies of America, and that the real existential enemy of America is Russia. They will never be friends. They may be short-term partners, but they will never be friends,” Zelenskyy stated. As previously reported, on Tuesday, June 24, the two-day NATO summit begins in The Hague. Participants will discuss three main issues: increasing defense spending, boosting defense production, and continuing support for Ukraine. Ahead of the summit, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and announced that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team would take part in several events over the coming days.
