Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim received the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce delegation at the Presidential Office July 10 in Taipei City, anticipating its continued contributions to the rise of Taiwan visibility on the international stage. The VP congratulated the delegates for their business success and engagement in charitable activity worldwide, which have helped extend Taiwan economic prowess overseas and raised its global profile as a force for good. According to Hsiao, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East impact international stability, while Taiwan faces Chinese military threats and gray-zone tactics. Thus, Taiwan is strengthening resilience and self-defense capability to safeguard regional peace and order, she added. In addition to geopolitical developments, the VP said Taiwan also needs to address challenges such as the U.S. tariff policies. She added that the government hopes to negotiate with Washington for mutually beneficial results and continue deepening bilateral trade ties. It is important for local industry sectors to continue working with the U.S., the VP said, adding that Taiwan’s successful industrial experience and productivity will help boost U.S. manufacturing. The group also met with Premier Cho Jung-tai at the Executive Yuan the same day. Cho briefed the delegates on various key government initiatives, including 10 major artificial intelligence infrastructure projects. In response, WTCC Chair Wu Kuang-yi commended Taiwan for its prowess in industrial development and innovation, as well as its free, open and efficient business environment. He said the WTCC looks forward to working with the government in sectors such as digital transformation, green energy development and smart manufacturing.
