The LEGO Group today officially unveiled the LEGO Ideas Tintin Moon Rocket set at the Hergé Museum in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. The set celebrates one of the most recognizable symbols from Hergé’s classic comic albums Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon. Comprising 1,283 pieces and standing 49 cm tall, the striking red-and-white checkered rocket is designed as an 18+ display model and comes with six LEGO minifigures: Tintin, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, the detectives Thomson & Thompson, and Tintin’s loyal dog Snowy, all outfitted in their distinctive orange spacesuits. The set was created by Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) Alexis Dos Santos through the LEGO Ideas platform, where fans can submit and share their own designs. Dos Santos, a Portugal-based designer, drew inspiration from Tintin’s universe and meticulously recreated the rocket using digital tools before submitting it to LEGO Ideas, where it gained the required 10,000 community votes. The final model was refined in collaboration with LEGO designer Ellen Bowley and partner Tintinimaginatio to ensure authenticity and quality, including subtle details such as a hidden reference to the designer’s zodiac sign. We were lucky enough to attend the set’s launch event and talk directly to both Bowley and Dos Santos, as well as Vincent Andries, Senior Brand Manager Benelux at the LEGO Group, and we’ll be sharing some of their insights -and our own- about the set soon, so keep an eye on our website! In the meantime, you can pick up the set from tomorrow, April 1st, for €159.99 from the LEGO website.
