…Signs Homeland Security LawGovernor Charles Soludo has inaugurated the state security system code-named “'Operation UDO GA-ACHI' meaning 'Operation Peace Shall Reign', with 200 vehicles and more than 2,000 personnel dedicated to combating crime in Anambra State, thereby making it a safe place for its citizens, businesses, and investors. The security system was birthed from the signing of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 by Governor Soludo, at the unveiling ceremony of ‘Operation Udo Ga-Achi’ held at the International Convention Centre in Awka, the States’s capital, on Saturday, 18th January 2025.Present at the event were members of the Anambra State Executive Council, the Senate, other State Governors, Mayors of the 21 Local Government Areas, Traditional Rulers, the Diplomatic Community, and recognized leaders in the state. In a release from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo said the Operation Udo Ga-Achi personnel are drawn from the Nigeria Army, the Police, Navy, Directorate of Secret Service (DSS), Civil Defence, Special Forces, and the Agunechemba, the state’s structured security outfit created with the Homeland Security Law, to complement and support existing law enforcement agencies in preventing crime. The ‘Operation Udo Ga-Achi’ personnel will be equipped with the best-in-class tracking system, a command-and-control system that enhances the use of voice, video, and data in security management, deploying Artificial Intelligence-powered surveillance cameras to cover the communities in Anambra, and walkie Talkies, among other facilities. It will also have special task forces on drugs, touting, cultism, and criminal idolatry, and will be active in all parts of the state, with patrols and pin-down stop-and-search operations as necessary. This will be enhanced with the State Call Centre with the toll-free lines 5111 and 08002200008, and the 112 number for emergency communication from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).Soludo affirmed that this special intervention complements regular policing by upscaling intelligence gathering, rewarding whistleblowers, enhancing rapid response, and urgently rooting out the criminals from any camp in Anambra. The governor averred that security, law, and order remain pivotal to the attainment of his administration’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland. He avowed that the character and dynamics of criminality in the Southeast and the country have evolved and become hydra-headed, and the response to it must be thoughtful, deliberate, and comprehensive, involving both the kinetic and non-kinetic agenda. The newly established Agunchemba is a strong intervention force that will be agile and mobile, underscoring that effective kinetic architecture will require a simultaneous interplay of bottom-up and top-bottom forces.Given that, Soludo affirmed that security requires a collective effort between various authorities in the state and to further deepen his stance on crime reduction, he said his government will partner with the Commissioner of Police and DSS to identify the top 10 LGAs with a history of violent crimes. and to pay a bonus of N10 million every month to any that records zero rates. violent crime.
