The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has refuted allegations made by the Ekiti State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) suggesting that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, was involved in the arrest of Dr. Samuel Opeyemi Agbeleoba, the General Manager of "Our Peoples FM."Responding to the claims, the university clarified that Professor Fasina had no connection to Agbeleoba’s arrest by the Directorate of State Security (DSS), contrary to the NUJ’s assertion that the incident was linked to an alleged sexual harassment case against the Vice-Chancellor.In a statement released by FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, the institution described the NUJ’s claim as misleading and baseless. The university emphasized that Agbeleoba’s detention was related to personal matters and had no connection to the Vice-Chancellor or the unverified allegations circulating online.“The Vice-Chancellor played no role in the arrest or detention of Dr. Samuel Opeyemi Agbeleoba. Whatever issues he has with the DSS are entirely personal, and it is incorrect to associate them with any false accusations against the VC,” the statement read.FUOYE further condemned the narrative being circulated on social media, describing it as false and misleading. The university urged the public to disregard the speculation, emphasizing that the alleged sexual harassment case was unfounded.“It is completely erroneous for the NUJ to link Agbeleoba’s arrest to unsubstantiated claims of sexual harassment. Such allegations are baseless and should not be taken seriously,” the statement concluded.
