Ondo NUJ partners ACSPN to enhance Media Skills

‎ The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, has described the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) as a platform capable of filling critical gaps in capacity building for media professionals and academics.‎‎Prince Adegbite stated this on Thursday when he received the leadership and members of ACSPN, led by the State Coordinator, Sunday Kolawole, at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure.‎‎The NUJ chairman noted that ACSPN is a blessing in disguise because of its commitment to professional development. He pledged the union’s support for the association, stressing that it will encourage members to improve themselves.‎‎“From today, see me as a member to send a signal that this is not a parallel body but a united platform. We are ready to support the association and harvest more members across all areas,” Adegbite said.‎‎He commended ACSPN for being managed by seasoned professionals who he said understand the communication system. He emphasised that the association’s strength lies in creating opportunities for members to enhance their skills. ‎‎The Ondo NUJ Chairman promised regular engagement with the association and added that both bodies will explore other avenues of collaboration.‎‎Earlier, the ACSPN coordinator, Sunday Kolawole, explained that the visit was to build a partnership with the NUJ. He said the association was established to bridge the gap between academic scholarship and professional practice in the media industry.‎‎Kolawole explained that membership of the association comprises both highly qualified scholars and experienced professionals with a goal to produce students and professionals who can combine theoretical knowledge with practical application.‎‎He revealed the association's plans to introduce a training programme that refresh professional knowledge, review the history and present realities of journalism and project its future in the digital age.‎‎Kolawole also pointed out the inevitability of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern journalism, stressing that professionals must adapt to remain relevant. ‎‎He called for NUJ’s collaboration in implementing its programmes to elevate the practice of journalism and communication studies in the state.‎‎On the visit were the ACSPN Secretary, Richard Ilesanmi, Publicity secretary, Tosin Ajuwon, Financial Secretary, Tope Fayehun and Mr Bolu Olu-Esho.‎‎*Richard Ilesanmi*‎State Secretary, ACSPN ‎‎
