The National Body of the National Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities, NANTS has inaugurated its branch of Federal University Oye-Ekiti Nigeria Newsline NG learnt that the executives included; Afolabi Ganiyu Adelek, Adeleye,(Chairperson), Samuel Babatunde, (Vice Chairperson) , Olaiya B Arise (Secretary)  Jimoh Mariam (Financial Sec)Others included ; Adetula Mayokun, (Assistant Secretary) Giwa Oluwaseyi, (Women leader) Asauolu Kehinde (Iya ibeji), Fakorede Benedict, (PRO), Adigun Kamoru (Ex-offico) The event was held at the Faculty of Arts Hall of the ivory tower on Tuesday, September 16, 2025Speaking at the courtesy meeting, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, SPRIL, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, on behalf of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, welcomes the national body of the association to the UniversityHis words, "we appreciate your support. We adhere to the laws governing our nation, which allow for freedom of expression, movement, and association. When we speak of freedom, we cannot separate the University from this concept."We have embraced you warmly and trust that the new union established today will set an exemplary standard. "Unionism is increasingly being perceived as hooliganism, and this misconception must be addressed""We all understand that unionism focuses on representing the interests of members, and how will any management be hostile to any union. As a Vice-Chancellor, you may be affiliated with either ASUU or CONUA. "When they advocate for their members' interests, they are advocating for yours too because, after five years, you will step aside as Vice-Chancellor. He further said "There are many goals that management cannot achieve alone; collaboration with the unions is essential."Let this branch establish a benchmark for union engagement with the government and the management of the institution.In his inaugural address, the Acting Chairperson of NANTS, Comrade Ganiyy Afolabi, stated, "It is with great humility and a deep sense of purpose that I stand before you today on this historic occasion the Official Inauguration of the National Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities, FUOYE Branch."I wish to express our profound gratitude to the University Management under the leadership of our amiable Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, for the expedited approval granted to our Union. " This approval is not merely procedural; it strongly affirms the University’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and staff welfare. Thank you for believing in our vision and for allowing us to contribute meaningfully to the development of this esteemed institution.We also deeply appreciate the unwavering support we have received from the leadership of NANTS at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, as well as from our sister unions here at FUOYE. "Your encouragement, counsel, and solidarity have sustained us through challenging times and given us strength to persevere. You are the reason we stand strong today.Let me especially commend the determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment of our pioneer executives and members. "Despite facing intimidation, persecution, and organized resistance from the leadership of NASU at the branch, state, and even national levels, you chose the path of justice, integrity, and self-determination. You refused to be broken, and today, history vindicates you. A collective three "Gbosas" for you!"This association, NANTS, is not born out of rebellion but out of necessity—a necessity to create a platform that champions the rights, dignity, and aspirations of non-teaching staff across Nigerian universities. We are here to fill the long-standing gap in leadership, advocacy, and vision."Our vision is simple: "To be the leading voice for non-teaching staff in Nigerian universities, promoting professionalism, equity, and respect for all staff members, regardless of their cadre or classification.""Our mission is to build a united, progressive, and proactive community of non-teaching staff at FUOYE by promoting welfare, professional development, equity, and institutional recognition while ensuring our voices and dignity are preserved.""In conclusion, let me remind you with a powerful phrase: No union thrives without unity.
