Benue Gov locks out civil servants over lateness

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State demonstrated his disapproval of tardiness among civil servants when he unexpectedly arrived at the state secretariat around 10:35 am on Wednesday.Finding only a handful of workers at their duty posts, the governor immediately ordered the gates to be shut, barring latecomers from entering. The visit, which was part of an inspection of ongoing renovation projects such as the installation of new lights, revealed the absence of some senior officials and commissioners.Addressing the situation, Governor Alia expressed disappointment with the lax attitude of the workers and warned them about the repercussions of such behavior.Speaking to the gathered crowd outside the gate, he reminded them of their critical roles in serving the people of the state.Alia, who also holds a clerical position, appealed to the workers’ sense of duty and morality, urging them to take their responsibilities more seriously. He emphasized that their actions have a ripple effect, impacting not only themselves but also their families and the larger community.According to Punch, the governor highlighted that the ongoing renovations and improvements were for the benefit of the public, not for personal interests. He further stated that he would not hesitate to take disciplinary actions, including dismissals, if necessary, to ensure accountability among civil servants.
