3 motorcyclists docked over alleged assault

By Chidinma Ewunonu-AlukoThree motorcyclists, Aliasatu Sharafadeen, 19, Shettuum Uka, 27, and Abubakar Bello, 20, were on Wednesday arraigned in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan over alleged assault.The defendants, whose addresses were not provided in court, were charged with conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.The Prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on Monday at about 9.45 a.m. at Elebu area of Ibadan.He alleged that the motorcyclists assaulted Gbenga Falola, a member of the Oyo State motorcycle task-force, by hitting him with plywood on the head.“The defendants fought Falola who asked them not to park on an obstruction and not to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace,” he said.According to him, the offences contravened Sections 516, 355 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.The court president, Mrs Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.She adjourned the case until July 23 for hearing.
