PMAN Coup: President, Pretty Okafor Returns Triumphant Over Alleged Conspirators

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) convened an emergency meeting to address the recent suspension of the association's President, Mr. Pretty Okafor, by the National Working Committee (NWC). The meeting also focused on the subsequent appeal submitted by Mr. Okafor, who has now returned to Nigeria, asserting his victory over what he described as attempts by conspirators to undermine his leadership. After a thorough review of the situation and careful consideration of the PMAN Constitution, the NEC issued the following resolutions: Suspension Status Quo: The NEC directed the NWC to maintain the current status quo regarding the suspension of Mr. Pretty Okafor and the Chapter Governors/Sole Administrators. No further actions are to be taken by the NWC until a full hearing is conducted in accordance with the PMAN Constitution, ensuring fairness and due process. Appointment of National Disciplinary Committee: In line with Article 13 (C) (ii) of the PMAN Constitution, the NEC has established a National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) to investigate the allegations of misconduct and breaches of the Constitution by Mr. Okafor and the Chapter Governors/Sole Administrators. The NDC will be chaired by Comrade Chuku Uchena James (Ebonyi State) and will include members from across the country to ensure a balanced and impartial review process. NDC Composition: The NEC acknowledged the importance of a diverse and impartial NDC. The committee members, who have been carefully selected, include: Chairman: Comrade Chuku Uchena James (Ebonyi State) Member: Comrade Aralola Olamuyiwa (Lagos State) Member: Comrade Jack Sydney Asuwani (Abuja FCT) Member: Comrade Lady Golda C Njiribeako Alexander (Imo State) Member: Comrade Robert Udende (Benue State) NDC Powers and Responsibilities: The NEC emphasized that the NDC has the authority to summon any association member to address allegations of misconduct. The NDC will review all relevant documents, interview involved parties, and ensure that natural justice is upheld throughout the proceedings. Procedural Integrity: The NEC reaffirmed that the suspension of any member, including the President, must be based on a finding of guilt by a duly appointed Disciplinary Committee, as required by Article 18 (A) of the PMAN Constitution. The NEC noted that no such committee had been appointed before Mr. Okafor's suspension, making the action procedurally improper. Due Process Commitment: The NEC reiterated its commitment to upholding due process, as outlined in Article 18 (D) of the PMAN Constitution, which guarantees members a reasonable opportunity to be heard before any disciplinary action is taken. Okafor's Return and Defense: Mr. Pretty Okafor has returned to Nigeria and is prepared to appear before the NDC to present a comprehensive defense against the allegations. Okafor has expressed confidence in his exoneration, describing his return as a victory over those he believes conspired against him. The NDC will ensure that Mr. Okafor has the opportunity to present all relevant evidence. Transparency and Unity: The NEC resolved to maintain transparency and unity within PMAN and will oversee significant matters to prevent communication lapses or decisions that could damage the association's reputation. Press Release Directive: The NEC instructed the NWC to issue a press release across all platforms and media channels to address the suspension of Mr. Okafor and the affected Chapter Governors/Sole Administrators, aiming to mitigate any further damage to PMAN's public image. Call for Calm and Unity: The NEC acknowledged the NWC's efforts to safeguard the association's integrity but stressed the importance of compliance with due process. The NEC called on all members to remain calm and united as the association navigates these challenging times. The emergency meeting underscored the NEC's commitment to fairness, transparency, and upholding PMAN's constitutional principles while addressing the ongoing issues with a spirit of justice and unity.
