Nigeria’s premier university, University of Ibadan (UI) has appointed the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun as an Ambassador Extraordinaire of the university following the commemoration of its seventy-five years in existence.The conferment on IGP Egbetokun, is in recognition of his significant contribution and achievements in the security sector and his efforts at championing the course of the university in Nigeria.In his remarks, the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, who led the top management team to the Force Headquarters narrated the various feats accomplished by the university, noting that the celebration of UI at 75 will help galvanize interest in a participatory program that will last a year, ending in November 2024.He said The decision to appoint IGP as the University of Ibadan's ambassador stems from his distinguished record of service and commitment to public safety and law enforcement. The IGP's tenure has been marked by significant achievements in enhancing security protocols, advancing crime prevention strategies, and fostering community-police relations across Nigeria. His reputation for integrity, leadership, and dedication to the public good aligns with the university's values and mission, making him an exemplary ambassador for the institution.The 75th anniversary celebration of the University of Ibadan is a landmark event, highlighting the institution's journey of academic excellence and its contributions to society. The appointment of the IGP as ambassador is part of a series of commemorative events aimed at reinforcing the university's commitment to social responsibility, innovation, and collaboration with key stakeholders in Nigeria.The program is expected to develop the institution and give opportunities in the form of scholarships to more students.Professor Adebowale lauded the IGP for contributing to the development of the university over the years, proving to be a good academia.Speaking shortly after receiving the team, IGP Egbetokun appreciated the university for the honour bestowed on him, stating that he would continue to work with the university because he has a lots of respect the university having studied peace And Security study at the Center for Peace and Security Service.He assured the University management of the Nigeria of Police's adequate security, to secure the institution and to support the students in terms of security.
