The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to staff training, retraining, and capacity building for effective service delivery at all levels in the Institution.Prof. Ige stated this on Thursday, 5th December, 2024, during a one-day training organized by the Teaching and Leadership Centre of the University for all newly-appointed Deans of Faculty, Directors, Sub-Deans, and Heads of Department and Units. In his words, “If we continue to do things the same way, we cannot expect different result. This event was designed for some certain challenges expected to be solved by some heads of units, as well as deans and directors.“What we are doing now is for everyone to learn, not because of today, but for the future and the system to continue functioning as appropriate. We all need to come together and work towards achieving common goal. The institution is not for academic duties alone, training is very important and that is why we place much premium on training our staff regularly.”The VC commended the Teaching and Leadership Centre, under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Busuyi Mekusi, for putting up such programme. “I want to establish that our administration will continue to support the centre so that the mandate which the university has placed on it will be delivered”, Prof. Ige said.In his welcome address, Prof. Mekusi maintained that having such training was of great importance. He added, “As an institution, we need to be very deliberate in our decision to move ahead. If we are not intentional about our decisions, we will end up doing things traditionally and getting results that are conventional. “But for us as a University to be distinctive, there is a need for us to deliberately embark on a recalibration that will situate us steadily for the great we desire and for the height we seek.”He thanked the Vice Chancellor and other members of the Management for their supports. He also expressed appreciation to the resource persons, Prof. Alaba Gbadamosi, who spoke on “Knowledge Production and Commercialisation in the 21st Century”; Dr. Sunday Ayeerun, who interrogated “Academic and Administrative Leadership for Sustainable Institutional Development”; the University Bursar, Mr. Tobi Orina, FCA; who talked on “Exploring Funding Opportunities amidst Scarcity for Effective Departmental and Unit Administration”; and Prof. Oluyemisi Adebowale, who was represented by Prof. Simon Ehiabhi and spoke on “Sustaining Academic Integrity through Research, Training, Examination and Result Processing”.
