As part of the present administration’s commitment to enhancing food security and supporting the agriculture sector in the State, the Ondo State Government on Friday distributed Agrochemicals to some selected farmers groups in the state. Some of the farmers groups that benefited from the free agrochemicals included Young Farmers Group, Agbeladun and All sunshine youth agricultural empowerment association. While distributing the chemical, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture and Agribusiness, Mr Wemimo Akinsola said that the present administration under the leadership of Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa would continue to support farmers and make the agricultural sector more attractive and profitable. He explained that arrangements have been concluded by the government to make more land available and accessible to the farmers across the state.Mr Akinsola noted that the recently signed Executive Orders by Mr Governor would further help the Agency to make more land available for mechanized systems of farming. He said the distribution of free agrochemicals to the farmers was part of the programmes earmarked to support farmers in the State for dry season farming and to show appreciation to the farmers for their support to the government. While acknowledging the essential role that farmers play in food security and sustaining the economy, the Senior Special Assistant to Mr Governor assured them that their efforts would never be taken for granted by the government.Mr Akinsola who also charged the staffers of the Agency to redouble their efforts in the coming year informed them that a lot needed to be done in order to meet the expectation of Mr Governor. One of the leaders of the groups, Mr Durojaiye Dominic who lauded the governor for his dedication to agriculture, particularly his policies that have fostered progress and innovation among farmers, appreciated the state government for consistent support to the farmers across the state. He therefore, urged the state government not to relent in its efforts to continue to support farmers in the state in order to boost food production and make the State food sufficient.
