LERSA ENGAGES WITH LAGOS STATE MINISTRIES OF TRANSPORTATION AND WORKS ON CRUCIAL ISSUES CONCERNING LEKKI PENINSULA

 Wednesday July 10, 2024The Leadership of Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) was at the State Secretariat in Ikeja for a crucial tripartite meeting with the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation together with Works & Infrastructure.While the LERSA President, Alhaji Sulyman Bello led the visiting delegation, the Honorable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Osiyemi Oluwaseun and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, led the Lagos State Government’s multidisciplinary team. LERSA President *Alhaji Sulyman Bello* enumerated several key issues impacting the community while commending the current Lagos State government's efforts and expressing readiness to collaborate further. Key issues discussed included:1. Pedestrian Safety on the newly paved sections of the Lekki-Epe Expressway: Addressing the rising number of hit-and-run accidents, with plans for pedestrian bridges.2. Completion of Key Roads: Updates on the Regional Road and Saliu Obodo Road projects.3. Management of Heavy-Duty Truck Traffic: Addressing the increase in heavy duty trucks’ traffic due to the area's rapid development and the need for efficient heavy-duty towing infrastructures/services.4. Bus Terminus: Operations at the Ajah BRT Terminus.5. Traffic Management: The possibility of reviewing some intersections for optimal commuting experience enhanced operational efficiency.6. Ogombo Sangotedo Bypass Road: Project status and completion details.7. Bonny Camp to Ajah Road Upgrade: Current repair interventions, as well as short to long term solutions.8. 4th Mainland Bridge9. Lagos-Lagoon Highway10. Drug abuse and other associated vices.11. Internal Road NetworksThe Special Adviser *Engr. Olufemi Daramola* and Hon. Commissioner *Mr. Seun Osiyemi* took time to address all the issues both requiring immediate attention and those in need of more fundamental long term interventions. More light was also thrown on the following issues:A. Approval of 12 units of pedestrian flyover bridges with full illumination, on the Lekki-Epe expressway. B. Recent launch of the Lagos State Transportation Masterplan and its wide-ranging implications.C. Implementation of the new Transportation Model in Lagos State, starting from the Lekki Peninsula.D. Ongoing efforts to ensure that construction sites do not cause drainage constraints and collaboration with other agencies of government to address challenges.E. Green Line rail transportation system.F. Advent of e call-up system and evacuation of freight by bargesG. Enhancement of Vehicle Inspection System (VIS) as a tool to address unworthy trucks.H. New initiatives to ramp up water transportation assets/services.I. Imminent enforcement action against gated estates blocking the free-flow of traffic, while reiterating that gates must be manned and accessible between the hours of 5am and 11pm.J. Implementation of proper signages around construction corridors and other areas in need of road signages.K. Worrisome trend of willful damage / vandalization of critical public assets and the place of citizens in the protection of such resources.Meeting agreed on modalities for subsequent follow up and progress-tracking.*LASG Attendees:*- Engr.
