Nigeria's Fight Against Cyber Crime Gets Boost: President Tinubu Commissions Cyber Crime Centre and Resource Centre

President Bola Tinubu has joined well-meaning Nigerians and policing stakeholders today 24th July, 2024, to officially Commission  two landmark projects of the Nigerian Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre and the NPF Resource Centre. President Tinubu who was ably represented by the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, commissioned the state-of-the-art,  NPF National Cybercrime Centre and the multifaceted facility NPF Resource Centre in Abuja.In his remarks, President Tinubu reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to investing in the NPF through provision of equipment, facilities, and adequate training of the men and officers of the Force.While recognizing the importance of the NPF-NCCC in upholding national security and its alignment with his reformation agenda, he called for interagency collaboration as a key to stamping out inter-agency rivalry."I therefore call for the elimination of inter agency rivalries and urged Law enforcement agencie to embrace a coordinated, collaborative approach. It is my ultimate policy in National Cyber Crime Centre. Will surpass the projected expectation."President Tinubu said "This administration remains resolute and the fight against all forms of criminality as an emerging and rapidly evolving category and for facing Cyber crimes are a new frontier. We are witnessing a rise in tracks post by cybercriminals, Online financial fraudsters and cyber terrorists who use the Internet to ordinates and carry out their nefarious activities."It is impossible to overstate the size of this challenge thereafter, the margins of technologies. The COVID-19 pandemic, and the headlines of 5G technology have all contributed to widening the scope and diversity of cyber based threats. Since 2020, Nigeria as weakness an unprecedented such and the use of social media to spread subversive messages and inside increasing national security.""In line with our policy objective of reforming the Nigerian police force, we are committed to investing in the Nigerian Police Force for the procurements of sufficient arms, weapons and other practical equipment as well as recruitment and continuous training to boost the number quality and preparedness of our police personnel." he saidIn his remarks, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, appreciated the President for his administration’s support to the technological advancement of policing in the country while assuring that the Force would make judicious use of the projects to showcase professionalism and clampdown on the activities of cybercriminals in Nigeria.The newly commissioned NPF National Cybercrime Centre is a state-of-the-art, ultramodern, and digitalized office complex dedicated to anti-cybercrime operations, and will serve as the central hub for national efforts to combat cybercrime, leveraging advanced technology and digital tools to enhance our operational capabilities. The NPF Resource Centre, also commissioned today, is a multifaceted facility that includes state-of-the-art conference halls and accommodation spaces for various events, designed to support a wide range of activities, including training sessions, conferences, and workshops, providing a conducive environment for professional development and collaboration.In the meantime, President Tinubu will tomorrow, Thursday 25th July, 2024, launch the Nigeria Police Green Initiative at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja. The Nigeria Police Green Initiative is an initiative of the NPF to promote environmental sustainability within our operations and facilities, as well as reduce the environmental footprint of our activities through the implementation of eco-friendly practices and the adoption of renewable energy sources.The launch of this initiative will include various activities such as tree planting, the establishment of green zones within police formations, and the promotion of sustainable practices among police personnel.
