Oil Theft: CDS, General Musa Reads Riot Act to Security Heads: Puts Oil Thieves on Notice, Meets with Oil and Gas Stakeholders

In a bid to finding lasting solution to most pressing security threats, sharing intelligence and best practises while exploring innovative solutions to enhance oil production and the economy of the nation, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has today read the riot act to all Security Heads of Operation Delta Safe in the Niger Delta Region in the wake of oil sabotage and in order to stop crude oil thefts across the region and promoting sustainable development for people. General Musa read the riot to the Commanders today, Wednesday 17th July, 2024 when the military top brass met for a crucial meeting that bring the key stakeholders in oil industry and millitaries, Nigeria Police Force and heads in Niger Delta Region in Portharcourt to review their anti-oil theft tactics, strategic direction and operational plans in line with presidential directivesIt would be recall that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and other security agencies, on Monday, declared a fresh war on perpetrators of oil theft in the Niger Delta region to improve oil production and revitalise the nation's ailing economy.The closed door meeting which lasted for more than five hours was held on the orders of President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who gave the Chief of Defence Staff Six months to fight unrepentant oil thieves and restrategise against the crude oil theft to save the oil and gas sector.In his remarks before the meeting, General Musa said the crucial meeting is to underscores the importance of collaboration and communication addressing the challenges faced across the region to safeguard nation's most vital industries and to improve production of crude oil in the region."The oil and gas sector is the backbone of our economy providing the revenue that influence our development and growth as a nation. Leveraging on this, all stakeholders are together to strengthen collective resolve and below comprehensive strategies to protect oil and gas sector. "The security of the oil and gas sector is not just the responsibility of the government or the military, numbered a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of all stakeholders. By working together, we can create a secure environment that fosters groups, attract investment and ensures the sustainability to sustainable development of our resources."Today's meeting provides us with a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, share insights, and forge partnership that will contribute lasting peace and stability in the Niger Delta."The CDS therefore urged all participants to engage in open and constructive dialogue, keeping in mind the common goal of stopping crude oil thefts across the region and promoting sustainable development for his people. He also reaffirmed the armed Forces and other security agencies commitment to the President, Commander-in-chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance oil production and the economy of our nation in protecting our national assets and ensuring this prosperity of our nation. "Together, we can overcome the challenges we face and build a safer, more secure future for Nigeria"Also addressing the media after the closed door meeting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, reassured Nigerians that they would see the result of the reinvigorated war against oil theft within three months as the military and security agencies have started the war in the region.SpyeTV News report that after the meeting, the Chief of Defence Staff briefed reporters that he read a riot act to the commanders on the reviewed strategic direction and operational plans in line with presidential directives to bring oil thieves to their kneels in the Niger Delta Region.At the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri,Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Forces, South South, Operations DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, and Force Commander Operation Udo Ka, who also doubles as the GOC 82 division, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, senior principal staff officers of the Defence Headquarters and critical stakeholders from the oil and gas sectorwww.twitter.com/spyetv
