The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Delta State Police Command, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, has received strong commendation for what has been described as a renewed and decisive crackdown on criminal activities across parts of Delta State, particularly in Ughelli and surrounding communities. Civil society activist Elvis Ekrakpoariemu Ogbevire praised the senior police officer in a statement, crediting him with revitalising the command’s operations unit and leading a series of successful interventions that have helped curb cult-related violence and restore public confidence in policing. According to Ogbevire, the operations unit under DCP Adejobi has intensified raids on suspected cultists, violent gangs, and other criminal elements in several flashpoints, recording multiple arrests and disrupting activities linked to insecurity in the area. He pointed to a recent operation in Ughelli that followed a cult-related killing, during which several suspects were arrested and later identified as key actors in the violence. The activist said the intervention was one of several examples of how the command’s operations unit, under Adejobi’s leadership, has moved swiftly to contain threats and prevent further breakdown of law and order. Ogbevire maintained that the DCP’s operational strategy has significantly reduced violent clashes in some previously volatile communities, helping to restore calm and improve safety for residents. He also noted that beyond street-level enforcement, Adejobi has strengthened internal discipline within the command by encouraging officers to carry out their duties professionally, lawfully, and without bias. “The prompt operational responses by the police have helped prevent further escalation of violence, especially in areas that were once repeatedly affected by clashes between rival groups,” the statement noted. In addressing public concerns, Ogbevire clarified that while the operations unit is responsible for arrests and field activities, issues relating to investigation and bail remain under the control of divisional police officers and area commanders. The clarification comes amid recent allegations of extortion involving some police formations in the state. However, the activist disclosed that DCP Adejobi had reportedly directed that the allegations be investigated, with refunds already being processed for affected persons where misconduct has been confirmed. Ogbevire called for balanced and responsible advocacy, urging stakeholders — including activist Israel Joe — to ensure that criticism is directed at the appropriate authorities while also acknowledging officers who are making visible contributions to public safety. He said sustained support for ongoing police operations remains crucial, describing the measures being led by the DCP as necessary steps in the broader effort to combat crime and protect lives and property across Delta State. With rising security concerns continuing to challenge many parts of the country, the commendation for DCP Adejobi adds to growing calls for stronger, intelligence-driven policing and sustained operational leadership at the state level.www.twitter.com/spyetv
