Ex-convict allegedly kills girlfriend over N100,000 in Ondo

An ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, 37, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a fight over a N100,000 refund.In a statement released on Monday, October 14, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the tragic incident took place on October 7, 2025, around 5:30 p.m. and was reported by one Ngozi Gregory at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters.Preliminary findings showed that the suspect engaged his lover in an argument over the repayment of the money he earlier borrowed from her. The quarrel reportedly escalated, leading Ademola to physically assault the victim until she lost consciousness.She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended. The victim’s remains were deposited in a morgue for autopsy as investigations commenced.The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the brutal act and assured that the Command would ensure justice is served.“The Command will not tolerate any act of domestic violence or brutality under any guise,” the statement quoted the Commissioner as saying.Lawal ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a comprehensive probe.He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support and urged residents to remain law-abiding while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
