Fake Doctor arrested in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its sustained clampdown on medical quackery with the arrest of a 25-year old suspect allegedly operating an illegal clinic in Ore, Odigbo Local Government area of the state. The suspect, identified as Idris Nasiru, was apprehended on January 14, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Command’s Surveillance Team. The arrest, police authorities said, forms part of renewed efforts to dismantle criminal networks endangering public health and safety across the state.“Items recovered from the suspect’s makeshift clinic during a search, include packs of injection needles, medical drips, bandages and assorted medical kits. A subsequent search of his residence, conducted with a duly signed search warrant, led to the discovery of used injection bottles, needles and syringes, further raising concerns about the scale of the illegal operation.”Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Nasiru is not a registered medical practitioner, confirming that the clinic was being run unlawfully. Police sources disclosed that the suspect has made “useful statements” while in custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.Commending the operatives for their swift and professional conduct, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Adebowale Lawal, underscored the critical role of intelligence-led policing in combating emerging and covert crimes.“This arrest underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in disrupting criminal activities that pose grave risks to public safety,” CP Lawal said.“We will not relent in our determination to protect the lives and property of residents of Ondo State. Medical quackery is a serious offence, and those involved will be brought to justice.”The commissioner reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal practices that threaten lives, adding that the police would continue to leave “no stone unturned” in enforcing the law.CP Lawal also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his strategic leadership and sustained support through reforms and initiatives aimed at strengthening public safety and addressing medical-related crimes nationwide. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command called on members of the public to cooperate with the police by providing credible and actionable intelligence to aid crime-fighting efforts across the state.“The Ondo State Police Command urges residents to exercise caution when seeking medical services and to remain vigilant so as not to fall victim to medical quacks,” the statement read. “The police remain fully committed to eradicating medical crimes in all their forms.”Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities through the command’s official communication channels. The police reiterated that safeguarding public health remains a collective responsibility, assuring citizens that offenders who prey on unsuspecting members of the public will face the full weight of the law.Source:The Hope
