IDA commissions ICT Center in Idogun

In a community where collective effort has long been the engine of progress, the Idogun Development Association (IDA) has once again etched its name into the annals of grassroots development with the commissioning of a modern digital resource centre for Idogun and neighbouring communities in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. The facility, which houses an e-library and a proposed JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre, stands proudly within the premises of Idogun High School—symbolically linking the town’s rich educational heritage with its digital future. For students who once travelled long distances to sit for computer-based examinations, the centre represents hope, access, and opportunity.Commissioned during IDA’s annual end-of-year celebrations—an event marked by football competitions, free medical outreach, and cultural displays—the project underscores the association’s commitment to holistic community development. In just three years, IDA has delivered several impactful initiatives aimed at improving education, health, and social cohesion.Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, described the ICT centre as a testament to the unity, resilience, and progressive spirit of the Idogun people. Ajanaku, an indigene of the community, said the project reflected a long-cherished dream inspired by the sacrifices of past leaders who laid the foundation for development through selfless service. He noted that the achievements of former community leaders placed a moral responsibility on the present generation to not only sustain but surpass their legacy. Recalling how Idogun High School itself was established through collective struggle by the Idogun Progressive Union (IPU) and community leaders, the commissioner said the new ICT centre followed the same tradition of unity-driven progress. However, Ajanaku stressed that sustainable development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. He urged residents to shun actions capable of disrupting harmony, expressing concern over recent negative reports about the community. He called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the Ondo State Government and to respect the outcome of the Administrative Panel currently sitting in Akure to resolve lingering issues.Earlier, Chairman of the Commissioning Planning Committee, Mr. Taiwo Ajimuda, said the project was made possible through the support of the Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency (OSCSD).In his address, the Worldwide President of IDA, Engr. Tunji Ajibolade, explained that the initiative was designed to ease the burden on students who travel outside the community to access digital examination facilities. He disclosed that OSCSD provided a ₦17 million grant, complemented by funds raised during IDA’s second convention.According to Ajibolade, the ICT auditorium can conveniently accommodate 250 laptops and desks, alongside four spacious offices—meeting key requirements for JAMB CBT accreditation. He revealed that about ₦50 million had been expended on the project so far. While appreciating IDA members for their unity and commitment, Ajibolade urged indigenes to see themselves as one family and work collectively for the community’s growth, just as their forebears had done.Adding his voice, the IDA Patron and former Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service, Attorney Omolorun Modupe, said the digital centre had opened a new chapter in education for Idogun and its environs. He noted that the project aligned with the Federal Government’s push towards computer-based examinations, making digital literacy no longer optional for students. The Father of the Day, Senator Dr. Bode Olajumoke, Chairman of the Irekari Development Association, described the facility as a major relief for communities within the Irekari axis. Having supported the project financially, he urged beneficiaries to use the centre responsibly and ensure its sustainability. The event also featured the presentation of scholarship awards to outstanding and indigent students, including those studying medical courses in higher institutions.Sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adewolu, the scholarships ranged from ₦10,000 to ₦200,000, further reinforcing the community’s investment in education. As community leaders, residents, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the milestone, the commissioning of the ICT centre stood as more than a physical structure—it was a powerful reminder that unity, peace, and shared vision remain Idogun’s strongest tools for development.
