Atiku Media office accuses Presidency of sponsoring fake statements

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar yesterday accused the Presidency of engaging in propaganda and disinformation targeted at the opposition leader.Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in a statement, alleged that the Presidency had resorted to using “faceless mercenaries” to smear Atiku through fabricated press releases.He said the latest of such was issued by one Kola Johnson, who falsely claimed to be Atiku’s media consultant. According to Ibe, neither Atiku nor his office had ever engaged Johnson in any capacity.“Particularly offensive is the false claim attributed to this individual that an Atiku administration would be dominated by a single ethnic group. This disinformation is part of a calculated propaganda project designed to ridicule Atiku in the media,” Ibe said.He warned media houses against lending credibility to fake statements allegedly circulated by hired propagandists, insisting that any such reports should be retracted immediately.Ibe accused the Tinubu administration of desperation, saying it had now resorted to propaganda schemes involving fabricated statements circulated through compromised journalists.He stressed that only the Atiku Media Office was authorized to issue statements on behalf of the former Vice President, and urged editors to always verify with his office before publication.The statement was signed by Ibe on behalf of the Atiku Media Office yesterday in Abuja.
