Tool drummer Danny Carey has confirmed that the band are currently in talks over a residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Since opening its doors in 2023 with a residency from U2, the state-of-the-art Las Vegas venue has welcomed huge names such as the Eagles, Dead and Company, Phish, Anyma, and the Backstreet Boys. Now, Tool could be adding their name to the exclusive list of artists to perform at the Vegas venue. During a new interview with Spiral Out, drummer Danny Carey discussed their future plans and revealed that the Sphere may play a role. He explained (via Blabbermouth) that the band are “working on a lot of new Tool songs right now”, before stating they are “very much into” incorporating cinematic aspects into their work, which is why Carey believes they are an ideal band for the Sphere. “We’re hoping when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere ’cause I think we’re the perfect band for that. We’ve been talking to those guys,” he divulged. Carey added of the Sphere, “It’s a very expensive endeavor, and it takes a while to get into the black. I think [you have to play] quite a few shows before you make any money.” Although Carey has yet to attend a concert at the venue, he did reveal that Tool were recently shown round the venue, sharing, “Well, I just took a tour of it. I haven’t actually seen a full-on show, but they took [us around the venue] to show it off. It’s incredible, man. I almost got vertigo [just looking at it].” As it stands, upcoming residencies in 2026 at the Sphere include Eagles, as well as No Doubt and Illenium. Additionally, in September, Brian May revealed that Queen were in discussions about a possible residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas. He told Rolling Stone, “ I’m very keen on the Sphere. It’s got my mind working. I sat there watching the Eagles, thinking, ‘We should do this. The stuff that we could bring to this would be stupendous.’ So, yeah, I would like to do it. We’re having conversations.” Metallica have also been rumoured to perform at the venue. Last August, bassist Robert Trujillo confirmed that talks had taken place. Since then, speculation has continued to gather pace, but no official announcement has been made.
